The Grand Maitreya Project (Mongolia)

A Project of Loving - Kindness for peace on Earth.

The Grand Maitreya Project is constructing a universal beacon of loving-kindness for peace on Earth. At the projects core in Mongolia will be the world’s largest symbol of Loving - Kindness, a 177 foot tall statue of the standing Maitreya Bodhisattva.Maitreya is the Bodhisattva, or Buddha of Loving Kindness. Connected to the statue will be a 354 foot tall stupa with several interior levels. Enshrined inside of the statue and stupa will be holy relics of the historical Buddha.

The statue complex will be home to a new temple for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and a meditation pavilion for up to 5,000 people. Also featured will be international Buddhist temples and educational centers representing many different lineages and traditions from around the world.

The Project is being conducted under the spiritual advice of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the leader of Mongolian Buddhism His Eminence Khamba Lama Gyabje Choijamts Demberel, Lama Jhado Rinpoche and the Venerable Thupten Ngodup, the State Oracle of Tibet.

Purpose

The purpose of the project is to help create the needed awareness and conditions in the world for Loving - Kindness to fully manifest, helping to create the causes for peace on Earth. The Buddha taught that there is incredible benefit in creating holy objects as when one sees an image of Loving - Kindness and peace it makes one think of peace. At that time a positive seed is planted within the mind and that seed will grow into Loving - Kindness. The intention is that the size and beauty of this project will bring the sacred symbol of love to the attention of many people throughout the entire world.

Buddhist do not worship religious objects. Rather, they are used as inspirational tools toward the creation and spreading of positive human qualities. In this case it is Loving - Kindness, along with associated attitudes such as peace and compassion.

Buddhist teachings and philosophy have the potential to positively impact everyone in the world regardless of their faith. Once the statue and stupa are complete, the Project will then work to help create a culture of Loving - Kindness in both Mongolia and in the west. The Project will work to keep Buddhist culture alive through mindfulness education that is based in both Buddhist ethics and philosophy.

History

In today’s age the majority of the projects and monuments are dedicated to commercial interests only. Building large statues of Maitreya was a tradition of the great Mongolian and Tibetan lamas of the past. The Lamas teach that the larger and more beautiful the statue is, the more people will learn about it, come into contact with it and benefit from this. Long ago Mongolia & Tibet had many beautiful monasteries and Maitreya statues, most all of which were destroyed by occupying forces in the 20th century. The Project aims to help further revive Buddhist culture in Mongolia and the world by constructing this symbol of love and helping to restore Mongolia's rich history and culture of Buddhism. 

Donations and Reward Products

As of 2015 the Project has successfully completed the first stages of the statue fundraising in Mongolia. This has allowed the Project to complete the engineering planning phases and the land foundation set up is now complete. All of the individual Maitreya statue pieces have been constructed and shipped to the build up site. 

With your help we will be able to complete this universal beacon of love and peace in less than two years’ time. Our overall goal is to raise $1.5 million to complete the statue. We are aiming at $75,000 from this Fundly support campaign. This will allow the Project to pay for statue constructions costs and to create special events and other fundraising campaigns in North America. Which will in turn help raise the additional  and final statue construction funding.

The statue and Complex are located in the sacred Bogd Khan Mountain range just outside of the Mongolian capital city of Ulaanbaatar. The Grand Maitreya Project was founded in 2009, it is a non-profit, non-membership, non-governmental organization.
